XML4MIR: Extensible Markup Language for Music Information Retrieval

The most important word in the phrase “Music Information Retrieval” is “information”. Ponder why it’s not “Music Data Retrieval”. Information is not just data. Instead, information is communication, the exchanging of data and meta-data. A great deal of effort has been expended on capturing music data; however, for the full potential of MIR to be realized, we must concentrate on how the communication of the data will take place.
