ActionScript Coding Standards (2002)

Macromedia Flash applications have generally been built without regard to particular standards or guidelines. While this flexibility allows for a wide variety of solutions to a problem, it also makes it difficult for anyone other than the author of an application to understand the code. Even the author may have difficulty reading his or her own code after it is written. If a developer cannot understand the code in an application, it will not be easy to debug the code, make changes, or reuse the application. This documents outlines a system of best practices specifically designed for coding with ActionScript and building applications with Macromedia Flash. Applications that use these guidelines should be more efficient and understandable-and the underlying ActionScript code will be easy to debug and reuse. [via]

Implementing a User Mode Linux with Minimal Changes from Original Kernel

...This paper presents some aspects of implementing a User-Mode Linux with as few changes to the original Linux kernel as possible. To port a Linux kernel to a User-Mode environment, basically all parts of the kernel directly interacting with the hardware must be changed. To accomplish this, we need an environment which simulates some h..

Linux Support for Transparent Checkpointing of Multithreaded Programs

...The most common use of checkpointing is in fault tolerant computing where the goal is to minimize loss of CPU cycles when a long executing program crashes before completion. By checkpointing a program’s state at regular intervals, the amount of lost computation is limited to the interval from the last checkpoint to the time of crash...
