A Quickscan of Global Bio-Energy Potentials to 2050
Biomass is receiving more and more attention as a source of energy. Biomass has the potential to provide a renewable (green or CO2 neutral) energy source, locally and readily available in large parts of the world. In its traditional form biomass (e.g. fuelwood, manure) accounts for 38+/-10Ejy, modern biomass (e.g. use of biomass for electricity or fuel generation), from now on also referred to as bioenergy, contributes ca. 7 EJy (Turkenburg 2000). For comparison: the global primary energy consumption in 2001 is 420 EJ (IEA 2003). [via]
